Newborn Crown - Free Pattern

This is a simple crown pattern. I think it would be a great prop for newborn photos.  The newborn size is here for free.  I will be writing up this pattern in all sizes up to three years and a tiara version in all sizes up to three years and listing it in my Etsy shop as a pattern download.
Have fun with this one!

Materials & Supplies:
5mm crochet hook
WW yarn of any kind, but nothing too soft or the crown peaks won't stand up.
Yarn needle

This pattern is worked in the round. At the end of each round join with a sl st where indicated. It may be helpful to mark this joining sl st and move the marker up with each round.

Special Stitches - crdc (crossed dc): skip next st, dc in next st, dc in the skipped st - this completes one crdc - you have 2 dc that form an X.

Ch. 56, lay chain flat and join in first chain with a sl st. Be careful to not twist your work.
R1:  Ch1, sc same space, sc in each ch around, join in first sc
R2:  Ch3, dc in the last st of previous round (be sure to dc in the last st & not the joining sl st). This will give you a ch3 with a dc crossing in front of the ch3. crdc around and join in top of ch 3.
R3: repeat R1

Crown Points: Start with Right Side facing you and work back and forth. Do NOT ch1 after turning!

R1: Ch1, hcd same space, hdc in the next 7 stitches, turn
R2: Sc2tog, sc in next 4 sts, sc2tog, turn
R3: Sc2tog, sc in next 2 sts, sc2tog, turn
R4: sc2tog, sc2tog, turn
R5: sc2tog, ch1, cut yarn, pull end through loop and pull tight.  weave in end.

Join yarn in next st, and follow the pattern for Crown Point 6 more times for a total of 7 crown points.

Finishing Round:
Join yarn at any point between crown points with the right side facing you. Ch 1 and sc evenly up and down the sides of the crown points. At the top of each crown point, sc,ch3,sc in the space beneath the top sc2tog in order to keep the pointed look and start down the other side of the point. When you make it all the way around the crown, join in first sc. Fasten off.  Weave in ends.

Jewels:
Circle: 8sc in magic loop. pull tight weave in ends
Square: 2sc, dc - repeat 4 times in magic loop. pull tight weave in ends.
Sew on jewels.

  1. What does the abbrviation sc2 tog mean?

  2. It means single crochet 2 together. You can google that term and find lots of tutorials online - especially on youtube. - Insert hook into next st, pull up loop, insert hook into next st, pull up loop (3 loops on hook) yo and pull through all three loops - it's a way on combining stitches to decrease.
